BLOUNT COUNTY MASTER GARDENER PLANT SALE

MAY 5, 2018

SMOKEY MOUNTAIN HARLEY DAVIDSON “THE SHED”

Master Gardeners, please mark your calendars for our 2018 Spring Plant Sale.  It will be held once again at The Shed on Highway 321 in Maryville.  Our sale date is set for May 5, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  We will be able to set up on Friday, May 4, 2018, from Noon until 4:30 p.m.  We will receive plants from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on May 4, 2018.  As all plants will be State inspected at 4:30 p.m., no plants will be accepted after 4 p.m.

Plans are being finalized but we will have displays from Kim Bolton, A Vermi Farm, our own REAP project, Right Now! Book sale, Back Porch and more.  We need each of you to contribute plants for the sale.  Please dig and pot your plants early to avoid transplanting shock.  Clean pots are available through Ron Hoffman and we will try to have some available at our March and April meetings.  Please note that because all plants will be inspected for disease and fire ants, if you have had any fire ants in your yard within the past two years, please use commercial potting soil.  We do not want to transfer fire ants from one property to another.

Plants needed include annuals, perennials, bulbs, herbs, vegetable seedlings, wild flowers, native plants, trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, ground covers, etc.  Also, we will need gently used garden tools, books, yard art and other gardening related items to offer in our “back porch” area.  This was a big hit last year!

Volunteers are needed now for publicity.  On Friday, May 4, 2018, we will need volunteers to perform set up, receiving, pricing plants and getting everything ready for our sale.  On the day of the sale we will need greeters, customer assistants, holding area overseer, organizers to rearrange after plants are taken from the display areas, clean up and more.

Come and experience the fun of our annual plant sale.  We need each of you doing whatever you can to contribute to another successful plant sale!  Watch for more details in the coming months.

                                                                                                Thanks so much!
